Hi all, I hope you had lovely Christmas and New Year celebrations! πŸŽ„πŸŽ

I work in a school (not as a teacher) and so, during the Christmas holiday, I challenged myself to a new project to make a new quilt that I call the “Cloud Nine Quilt“.

To start this project with a bang, I set myself the challenge to make 9 quilt blocks and 9 tutorial videos for YouTube within the 2-week holiday period. This is no mean feat!

.

I will release the first video on my YouTube channel later today, January 7, 2024. πŸŽ‰

It took me 4 days to make the blocks, which I completed by Christmas Eve!, and have been creating and editing the videos each morning between Christmas and New Year.

A stack of colorful fabric

Description automatically generatedI have been using Bonnie & Camille fabric in my previous Quilt Block Tutorial videos (link here). Mainly the One Fine Day collection, but adding in other B&C fabrics from my stash when needed. However this fabric stash is running low, so I have switched from my usual 12” blocks to 9” blocks (finished size) instead. I must say I do like the reduced scale.

I also limited my colour choices to red, green, and white, and have used the red striped fabric to provide a β€œping” fabric in the block design.

The 9″ Continental Quilt Block

Description automatically generatedThe first block is called the “Continental Quilt Block”. This is an uneven 5-patch block that has a narrow cross in the center of the block and wider units around the sides. All measurements and instructions for making this block are available in my YouTube video, which will be released later today.

I have to admit I made a few mistakes when sewing this block together. If you look closely there is still a mistake in the block towards the end of the video. Just remember, no one is perfect! 😁 My husband noticed it when taking photos, and I have now fixed it before sewing it into the quilt.

I plan to position this block in the finished quilt as shown below. Please come back next week to see the second block and video.

Happy quilting,
