Diamond Square Quilt Block – Cloud Nine Quilt

Welcome to Week 9 of the Cloud Nine Quilt blog, the Diamond Square quilt block!

This week I am remaking a quilt block called the “Diamond Square.”

I originally made this block in May 2020, but I have improved my video-making technique since then, so I have remade it for this quilt block. This was one of those blocks where I made a mistake at the block layout stage but did not notice it until later – very frustrating!

⭐USEFUL SEAM TOOL⭐ Reverse stitching with the “Seam Fix” tool I am sure I am not the only person who makes a mistake and has to do reverse stitching 😃 This is easy to do with a seam ripper, and I have used many versions in my time. Recently, I bought a new seam ripper called “Seam Fix”. This is bigger than the versions I’ve used previously and its metal end seems smaller and sharper than the other tools I’ve used. It also has a large cap that has a rubber end which you can use to gather all the unpicked threads together quite easily.

The Diamond Square quilt block is positioned at the bottom-left of the finished quilt as shown. I have finished building the Cloud Nine quilt and I’m so pleased with the results so far. I took the quilt to the long-arm quilter recently and I’m hoping to get this back soon, so watch this space for more details!
